Teacher

Matthew has always taken great pleasure in sharing his music with others, and what better way to achieve this than by passing on his enthusiasm and knowledge to fellow pianists? He believes that the most important aspect of playing any musical instrument is the enjoyment.

Matthew began teaching piano to a friend at university, which sparked an interest in taking it further. Consequently he has been teaching piano to both children and adults on a weekly basis since September 2006. As well as overseeing their progress within the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) syllabus, he enjoys supplementing their lessons with other types of music. For example, he arranges well-known pop tunes to make them more accessible to his less advanced pupils, and also tries to encourage improvisation among those who show a keenness for jazz and blues. Matthew believes that being only twenty five helps him to relate to his pupils as it is only a few years since he was in their shoes. From his pupils' point of view, as a young accomplished pianist, he is a more immediate role model.
